Step 1 - Configuration of HUAWEEI SMARTX MT880

First we shall discuss the configuration of the ADSL modem HUAWEI SMARTX MT880.

Please open browser and go to page http://192.168.1.1 (Optionally it can also be http://192.168.1.2 .... Please Check.)

The authentication screen for the modem will appear as shown -

Please enter the login credentials provided by BSNL.
(Default Login is 'admin'; default password is 'admin').

You can see the summary page which gives you the current settings of your modem.

Next comes the WAN setting page which needs to be configured as shown below -

The above settings in a magnified version is as shown below -

Next comes the DHCP settings which is as shown below -

The DNS setting is as shown below -

N.B. - The DNS address has to be got from your ISP which is BSNL. The DNS Servers largely vary from one area to the other.

NAT (Network Address Translation) and Static Route is not needed as of now.

Next comes the LAN settings in Advanced Section. This is the pace where we configure our modem to the IP address 192.168.1.1. It can be configured to any IP address having any subnet mask. But in this case we are giving it a /24 subnet mask.

It is as shown in the figure below -

All the other settings i.e. Virtual Server, Applications, Filters, Firewall, RIP in the Advanced Section can be skipped.

Next, we go to the Tools section wherein we can find Administrator settings.

In the Administrator settings, we get an option to change the default password as shown -

Next comes - Time, System Setting, Firmware Upgrade, Misc., Log, Diagnostics, Traffic Statistics which are configured by default.
However, if you go in system setting, it is a good idea to back up your system settings (just in case you need to reset your modem or in case of a rare possibility of the data in the modem getting washed away).

Step 2 - Linksys Wireless Router WRT54G

Next we shall discuss the configuration of the wireless router

Please open browser and go to page http://192.168.1.2
(This can be set, which I will show you later on....)

First, go to Setup --> Basic Setup, which appears as soon as the username and password is entered as shown -

Then, go to Setup --> MAC Address Clone, and enter the MAC address of the ADSL modem and then click, CLONE Your PC's MAC -

Next, go to Wireless --> Basic Wireless Settings and fill in and save the parameters as shown below -

Go to Wireless --> Wireless Security and fill in and save the parameters as shown below -

Then go to, Administration --> Management
